HEROES AND FRIENDS

Chorus
My heroes are with me every night
Up here on the stage
Johnny & Waylon are off to my right
They still inspire me today

Merle and Willie’s are still on this earth
Their greatness beyond compare
My heroes and friends get me through the night
When no one out there really cares

I was just 14 back in ’68
A jukebox in an old pool hall
Sing Me Back Home played over and again
Shivered my spine, I recall

Johnny was riding a number one
He made in the Folsom [4] pen
I knew I had to sing those songs
That’s where my heroes began

In a honky-tonk bar, there was the star
He played Waylon ten times a night
I fell in love with that back beat rhythm
Played it till I got it right

Then the Red Headed Stranger was crying in the rain
So simple, I was amazed to find
That Waylon and Willie were now on my list
Of heroes that were friends of mine

Repeat Chorus

TAG: My heroes and friends get me through the night
When no one out there really cares
