I said Grandpa, I got some bad news
Just lost my job, gonna lose my house to
Bank’s done took the cars and most everything I own
They’re putting us out on the street
I’m calling you, Grandpa, you’re the only family that I got
Please tell me what I really need
1st Chorus
He said “Come Back To The Country, everything will be just fine
We got plenty room and work here on the farm
Simple way of living, won’t cost you a dime
Little hard work never did a man harm”
So I got a one way U-Haul with the last little cash I had
Packed up our earthly belonging never seem my Jenny this sad
She’s standing by her man, as we said our last goodbyes, headed south to Rt 58
Grandma & Grandpa were waiting outside, as we turned in by that rusty old gate
2nd Chorus
He said “welcome back to the country, everything will be just fine
We got twenty good acres of land out there
Still grow most of what we eat and Grandma cans all the time
Lord knows Jenny needs some fresh air
Bridge: No cell phone, no internet, no cable TV
There’s a difference between what you want , and what you really need
3rd Chorus
We came back to the country”, everything worked out just fine
Life’s back to normal and we hold our heads high
Kids are doing great in school and Jenny breathes alright
Grandpa’s is like a kid at seventy-five
