FREE RIDE

I work the night shift down at the Truck Stop, out on Highway 58
Ain’t what you’d call much of a job, but its honest work for a little pay
I guess I was lucky to find it, once the factory jobs went south
Most my friends are riding the employment, up to the day it runs out

CHORUS
But I don’t need no charity, I still got my pride
And as long as my body can work, I’m not looking for a free ride

Working for seven dollars an hour, Less than half from my old job
And my health insurance plan, Ain’t no plan at all
We took a second mortgage, To pay off a few loose bills
Might say we were living, A bit over our heads

Bridge
I’m not talking down my neighbors, I’m not giving poor folks the slam
Just like my daddy and my granddad too, I’ll always be working man

Chorus: But I don’t need no charity, I still got my pride
And as long as my body can work, I’m not looking for a free free ride

But I don’t need no charity, I still got my pride
And as long as my body can work, I’m not looking for a free free ride
