JONATHAN’S SONG

My hometown paper came today,
A week late, cause I live so far away
The front page, it caught my eye
A flag drapped coffin, I started to cry
Cause I knew, a soldier had died

It’s a sad, sad day in Patrick County
A young man just 23 years old
Gave his life for his country
He felt a duty to go
A proud Marine, his name was Jonathan

Read about the funeral, State Troopers in their blues
The Marines were impressive with their spit shined shoes
About a brave father, who gave a hero’s eulogy
I could not believe how it got to me
Again I cryed, for Jonathan

Bridge:  He left a letter for his Dad,
Telling what to do if he didn’t come back
He said, “Look to the future in my sisters’ eyes
They need you both to be there for them"

So the next you see the news that another soldier died
Pray for his mama and all those he left behind
And pray for the soldiers still fighting the war
Pray for the day we’ll lose no more(Pause)

And take a minute, .......... to remember Jonathan
